OVERVIEW

To your left, a map of Canada's Mixedwood Plains shows the ecoregions within this ecozone. Four of 194 Canadian ecoregions are located in the mixedwood plains. These are the St. Lawrence Lowland, Frontenac Axis, Manitoulin-Lake Simcoe, and Lake Erie Lowland ecoregions.
Four Great Lakes surround this ecozone: Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Lake Ontario. Although the landscape is mostly flat plains and rolling hills, there are occasional mountains, such as Mount Royal, which stands at 227 meters.
Agriculture is one of the most important activities in the Mixedwood Plains, and takes place close to the shoreline. Thirteen of Canada's 25 major cities are located here, such as Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal, and Hamilton. These cities are places that have been hit the strongest by urbanization.
